Jean Leon 'Vinya Palau' Merlot

Jean Leon ‘Vinya Palau’ Merlot is a red wine from the Penedès region in Catalonia, Spain. It is made from 100% Merlot grapes grown in the single vineyard called Vinya Palau. The vineyard was planted in 1991 on clay-limestone and sandy soils that help produce balanced and concentrated wines. The wine is aged for about 12 months in French oak barrels, which adds complexity and subtle spice. It usually has aromas of ripe plum, blackberry, and dark red fruit with hints of herbs and toasted oak. On the palate the wine is medium to full-bodied with smooth, sweet tannins and fresh acidity. Flavours often include black fruit, spice, and light balsamic notes with a long finish. It is typically around 14.5% alcohol and is produced as an organic wine. Vinya Palau Merlot is considered an elegant expression of the Merlot grape from Spain. It pairs well with red meats, duck, stews, and aged cheeses.
